The client is a state-owned oil and gas company, managing oil and gas production, exploration, refining, and distribution.

The company aims to achieve Net Zero by 2045 by investing in low-carbon solutions and new energies.

Requirement

The client [COMPANY] required us to implement a system based on 3D E-learning Modules to address the COMPANY’s new staff and young engineers.

The general objective of the modules is to improve job-related knowledge by understanding and gaining experience on process, control, design and Operation of COMPANY upstream facilities.

Our main goal has been to provide unassisted, automatic training tools that can massively deploy best practices and the knowledge of experienced operators to young engineers.

Solution

E-learning material has been developed for the major equipment of COMPANY production facilities such as:

●  Three Phase Separators

●  Knock Out Drums

●  H2S Stripers

●  Glycol Dehydration

●  Produced Water Treatment, Pumps (Centrifugal, reciprocating & plunger)

●  Compressors (centrifugal & reciprocating) and Oil / Gas producers

●  Water / Gas injection wells

The objective of these E-learning modules is to enable young engineers to understand the design features, functionality and key parameters that affect the operation performance of this equipment.

Besides classical E-learning contents, the solution integrates immersive 3D Digital Twins of the target equipment to allow competencies transfer through learning learn by doing exercises.

It includes online testing features to certify the correct understanding of the young engineers, thus assessing the readiness level of trainees to perform several normal and abnormal operating procedures.

Conclusion

Integrating 3D immersive simulations with a classical E-learning system allowed coupling the needed theory with a hands-on, risk-free 3D VR virtual environment, where the user can learn and practice, acting in a way that feels as close as possible to the real production situation.
Such experiential, simulation-based learning is the most effective way to give the workforce the situational awareness needed to make the right choice in every scenario.

This translated to a risk-free, cost-effective approach to train field operators for what awaits them in the real world through experiential learning. Major benefits include a significant reduction of logistic costs, a higher knowledge transfer without pulling SMEs away from their work, and a safer, more effective performance of COMPANY industrial facilities.
